"S" monogram tumblers at Gramercy

These 4 lovelies are on display at Gramercy Fine Linens. Gramercy is a beautiful shop run by two lovely ladies. If you are in Atlanta and have not been there, you need to go by. Just beautiful. ( I need to replace this bland photo with one from their shop!)

They will be showing these tumblers and other glass items of mine that can be custom ordered through their store.
I'll be delivering more items to them in the next 2 weeks. So, check it out!

The Challenge at Daily Paintworks

I love this Daily Painting website.

In fact, it is how I first learned about the daily painting movement and pushed me to start this blog. One day I hope to post daily like these artists. Right now life is too busy and I am dreaming about making it happen soon. very soon! I have not visited this blog in a long time and just checked in to see what some of my favorite artists are up to. The website has changed and they added a "Challenge" section which is so exciting! I love "assignments" and will definitely participate in this very soon.

Atlanta Artist Center juried show

Horse Grazing, oil on canvas made it into the Atlanta Artist Center's current juried show!
Last weekend Joseph Norman, from the University of Georgia, judged the show and I was thrilled to be a volunteer to see the behind-the-scenes of how a judge goes about picking and eliminating art for a show. SO cool!

Every judge has a different process, but this was better than I expected. It was more like a class critique and he really took careful time to observe and to then talk about what worked and did not work for almost every pc of art on display. (The other members kept saying that this was not the usual process and what a treat it was.)

I am not sure how many paintings were submitted, but maybe under 200 and he had to whittle it down to 75. Then he had to pick the best in show followed by a second and third place. Then, honorary mentions, which I believe there were 5. Horse Grazing made it in the show and into the final "room" where he gathered the paintings he was considering for these special honors. Volunteers must be silent and I was holding my breath hoping he would give mine something. Alas, it did not receive a special honor, but I am thrilled it was in close running for one and that it made it in the show.

Afterwards, he asked if any of us had work submitted-that it was killing him to know if he had been discussing our work and not knowing whose piece it was. A few spoke up and then I told him which was mine. SO, he gave me a little further commentary. Mainly to keep the boldness in brushtrokes and that he only wished the trees is the upper right had more detail and that the posts changed colors. Great insight and not something I had realized. It always helps to have another set of eyes point out areas that pop out to them.

wait for me • in progress

Ansley and Bea. I love my little Bea's body in this image..especially her fingers poking out on her right hand, just grazing the hardwood floor. Ansley, my niece spent the night and Bea wanted to follow her everywhere.
There are some areas not working yet, so I will post the finished painting soon!

Love Birds

Love Birds
hand engraved glass. $75 (update: sold)

Happy Valentine's Day! Here is a recent piece that I put in the Decatur Gallery show this past weekend. There was a lovely open house saturday night and many of the artists made special pieces for the "love is in the air" theme.

Have a nice evening! We are doing our usual cooking in on this holiday since we love to cook...for a few weeks we have been talking about making Lions Head Chinese meatballs. I found this beautiful blog listed below and we are combining a few different recipes we have found...now off to the buford highway farmers market to pick up some groceries!

swirly fun love for your valentine

Calligraphy on glass. This is how I first started etching glass and I still love it. I do not use acid, I use a drill and it is very similar to drawing with a pencil...but it is permanent.

These little vases are about 3 or so inches tall and make a perfect gift for your valentine. Just $30, they will be beautiful with an elegant flower perched on top. (I made some paper flowers) The etching is swirly and fun, which makes it prefect for anytime of year, really.

Another plus is that these can be personalized. Add a name, a phrase, a line from a poem (there is not a ton of room, so don't get too crazy...) You can make these your own and have some fun. Just think about conversation hearts or whatever message you'd like to send. Personalized vases are $38.

Currently you can find these at the Decatur Market & Gallery. http://www.decaturgallery.com/
Go by and see the "i love you" vases in person. Other locations will be announced soon and you can always contact me here to order one.
